It’s easy at this time of the year to get lost in the environmentally damaging consumerism of the festive period, and with just over two weeks left, now is the time to act and give a more sustainable gift that’s really worth giving.
Choosing sustainable gifts is about considering each item’s health, environmental and social impact. As with all sustainable shopping, this includes where the product was made, the materials it was made from, how it is packaged, and any energy efficiency ratings.
Sustainable gifting is an opportunity to take your sustainability journey a step further by actively supporting causes that you feel passionate about and minimising the amount of unwanted gifts and waste associated with the festive period.
At this time of the year, we must ask ourselves if our loved ones really need the gift we are buying them or if a donation or an e-card with the intent of them choosing their own gift would be more appropriate.

Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor – Plant-a-Tree Program – Australia

The Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor is a program that is restoring the natural landscape and reconnecting habitats by linking small patches of remaining vegetation to create a 200km green corridor from inland to the coast. Planting trees in the corridor grows critical habitat for native wildlife on historically cleared land in a Global Biodiversity Hotspot.
