Permanent Plantation Forest, Sunnyside Project, Australia
Situated in the Southwest Australia Ecoregion and in one of only 36 global biodiversity hotspots, this project protects 560 hectares of established Eucalyptus plantation forest from land clearing and timber harvesting.
This nature-based Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) project is legally protected for 100 years and addresses climate action through carbon sequestration.
This project funds the management of a further 750 hectares of high conservation remnant vegetation on the property, and First Nations participation working with the Yarramoup Aboriginal Corporation across a range of on-site activities.
Firm pricing to undertake any regulated emissions units transaction with Carbon Neutral is only available to wholesale clients (as defined in the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth.). ACCU and CER units are regulated emissions units. Carbon Neutral Pty Ltd (ABN 42 164 635 769) holds Australian Financial Services Licence 451004.
While we do not serve retail clients in regulated emission unit products, we offer Voluntary Carbon Market products from Gold Standard, Verra and other globally recognised standards.

The Sunnyside Permanent Plantation Forest Project addresses carbon sequestration by transitioning a plantation forest to a permanent forest. Without this intervention, these lands would likely be converted to non-forested uses, resulting in significant carbon loss. Carbon credit sales directly fund the protection of 750 hectares of critical habitat. The project prioritises collaboration with First Nations communities, creating meaningful employment and preserving cultural land management practices. Local Aboriginal workers are engaged in essential ecological restoration activities, including:
- Seed collection and treatment.
- Tree planting.
- Direct seeding.
- Biodiverse planting design.
An additional environmental benefit is the active management and eradication of the Sydney Golden Wattle (Acacia longifolia), which has spread throughout high-conservation-value native vegetation. The remnant vegetation on the property also borders coastal native vegetation, significantly expanding the protected land area along that part of the coast. By addressing these ecological challenges, the project helps restore and maintain the natural ecosystem’s integrity.
- This project is situated in one of only 36 global biodiversity hotspots.
- Conservation and restoration of Australian biodiversity.
- Investment in First Nations-focused land management practices and connection to Country.
- The outcomes of this project initiative have been created to align with six United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
