In response, Carbon Neutral and Save the Children Global Ventures (SCGV) have partnered to address the climate crisis while empowering communities and enhancing children’s well-being.
Through Save the Children’s NbS4Children Hub (Nature-based Solutions for Children), we aim to deliver sustainable projects that harness the power of climate finance to create meaningful, lasting change. Our joint initiatives prioritise the needs of both the planet and the people who call it home, proving that environmental protection and social betterment can, and must, go hand in hand.
Enhancing Community Climate Resilience Through Nature-Based Solutions
By leveraging Carbon Neutral’s expertise in Nature-based Solutions, the NbS4Children Hub takes a targeted approach to support climate-vulnerable communities. This collaboration ensures environmental and social benefits are delivered effectively, drawing on Carbon Neutral’s deep knowledge and experience. Our projects encompass diverse initiatives worldwide, from biodiverse reforestation in Australia, cleaner cookstoves in Nepal that cut greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality, to blue carbon mangrove restoration in Vietnam, which bolsters biodiversity and enhances coastal ecosystems. Meanwhile, reforestation and agroforestry in Kenya help restore degraded lands, create new economic opportunities, and provide critical support to local livelihoods.
This partnership stands out for its adaptability—each project is tailored to the specific needs of the communities in which they are located, leveraging the deep, long-standing stakeholder relationships of Save the Children’s Country Offices. By working closely with local leaders, we ensure that solutions not only address immediate environmental challenges but also create lasting change for generations to come. Climate-financed projects often span 15–50 years, offering a stark contrast to the shorter timelines of traditional donor-funded aid. This long-term approach ensures that projects benefit multiple generations.
Climate Finance: A Catalyst for Community-Driven Development
Our partnership with NbS4Children is built on shared values and combines complementary expertise to deliver high-quality, reliable projects. What makes this approach unique is its foundation in sustainable carbon finance. Unlike traditional funding models, carbon finance creates ongoing revenue through verified emissions reductions or removals, with the benefits flowing directly to the communities we support. This model helps communities become self-sufficient while promoting long-term economic growth, gender equality, climate adaptation, and resilience.
Reinvesting proceeds from carbon credits amplifies each project’s impact, enabling communities to build lasting resilience. This approach delivers multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including No Poverty, Quality Education, and Gender Equality, by addressing root causes of vulnerability while tackling urgent climate concerns.
Creating Opportunities for Economic Empowerment
An essential pillar of Carbon Neutral and SCGV’s collaboration is community empowerment. Together, we provide training in sustainable land management, project development, and entrepreneurship, equipping community members with the skills they need to become stewards of their own sustainable futures. This community-centred approach is constitutional to our design, fostering a sense of ownership, enhancing local expertise, and ensuring holistic long-term project success.
In addition to creating jobs, each initiative strengthens local economies by promoting environmentally sound practices that generate stable, sustainable outcomes. From cultivating and managing agroforestry systems to fabricating improved cookstoves, community members gain livelihoods that support their families and build economic resilience and sustainable self-sufficiency.
