Adopting energy efficiency measures and shifting to renewable energy are an important part of the solution to reducing global carbon emissions. But we will still generate emissions. Carbon neutrality requires that we offset the remaining emissions.
Carbon Neutral is proud to be the only company that can offer most types of carbon offsets (or carbon credits) available on the open market as well as our own locally produced offsets from Australia's largest biodiverse reforestation carbon sink.
We are a leading offset provider in the ‘voluntary’ market where companies choose to do the right thing according to their respective social and environmental goals and values.
Offset buyers choose to support carbon offset projects that have an inherent unique value to the purchaser dependent on many factors such as project type (solar, windfarm, hydro power, methane capture, waste diversion, energy efficiency or reforestation / forest protection) or country location. Projects also deliver certain environmental, economic and community or social advantages (co-benefits). Such non-carbon benefits include new infrastructure, employment and training, or biodiversity enhancement benefits which would not have occurred without the project or revenue from the sale of offsets. Some projects also have valuable health improvement co-benefits.
A carbon offset (or carbon credit) is generated from an activity that prevents, reduces or removes greenhouse gas emissions from being released into the atmosphere to compensate for emissions occurring elsewhere.
The voluntary and compliance carbon offset markets have a range of validation and verification standards across the globe. For example, the Australian Government's initiative Climate Active (formerly NCOS) provide guidance on what is a genuine voluntary offset and sets minimum requirements for calculating, auditing and offsets.
Several of the well known International Accreditation Standards of the voluntary market include: Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), The Gold Standard (GS), Social Carbon, Australian Carbon Credit Unit (ACCU) and Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD).
Carbon Neutral is regulated by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission and holds Australian Financial Services Licence Number 451004 and offer advice and sell carbon offsets as a financial instrument. This includes Australian Carbon Credit Units (ACCUs) and Voluntary Carbon Units (VCUs).
