A friend who weeds is a friend indeed…

Here at Carbon Neutral the core of what we do is ask businesses and individuals to do what they can to have a positive impact on the planet. We are immensely proud of what we do, but never lose sight of the fact that we couldn’t do any of it without the support of our partners and clients.

Therefore, around this time of year we like to come to together in support of one of the many great causes and organisations that provide ways of practically supporting their efforts to protect the environment.

On 30th November, each of the staff in our Perth office pulled on their gardening gloves and headed into the Perth Hills for a morning of weeding and helping to maintain the Susannah Brook Reserve.

The organisers and group that invited us along are the Perth NRM, an organization that works with industry, community and all levels of government to create meaningful activities and environments. Their mission is to ensure future generations can enjoy the natural resources that make the area special – and provide a great day out along the way!

For our day in the bush, Perth NRM set us up to help the Friends of Susannah Brook Reserve who are part of the Susannah Brook Catchment Group Inc, a volunteer body whose aim is to improve the water quality in the Swan Rivers system. They do so by enhancing the habitat along the Susannah Brook within the surrounding remnant vegetation by controlling weeds, planting native species and reducing erosion and nutrient export. All of the hard work works towards linking fragmented patches of bush land and enhancing habitat for endangered and threatened species and create connected wildlife corridors to allow for free movement of fauna and increase vital habitat in the Perth Hills. Restoring the Wildlife Corridor along the Susannah Brook aligns with what we do here at Carbon Neutral, therefore we didn’t take much persuading as to the biodiversity and positive environmental impacts of their work.

After a fun day in a beautiful rural setting, we can thoroughly recommend gathering your colleagues or friends to support the Susannah Brook Catchment Group and suggest that you contact Perth NRM to organise your next team day out!

Contact Perth NRM for further information about how your colleagues or friends can get involved in a fun day out that will help the environment.

MORE ABOUT THE SUSANNAH BROOK CATCHMENT GROUP

The Susannah Brook Catchment Group aims to improve the water quality in the Swan River system by enhancing the habitat along the brook and within the surrounding remnant vegetation by controlling weeds, planting native species and reducing erosion and nutrient export.

In doing this vital work, they link fragmented patches of bush land and enhance habitat for endangered and threatened species to create connected wildlife corridors to allow for the free movement of fauna and increase vital habitat. The group would love to see more friends groups and companies like Carbon Neutral work all along the brook!
