The M’tetezi, a cookstove crafted in Malawi, operates efficiently with minimal firewood, utilizing a side opening that creates a draft for better combustion. This innovation slashes greenhouse emissions and indoor pollution, notably reducing health risks like respiratory and eye problems commonly faced by women and children due to smoke exposure. It also frees up significant time for them, previously spent on gathering wood, which can now be directed towards productive activities. Encouraging its production in Balaka not only brings health and environmental benefits but also boosts local employment, with the community directly involved in creating and distributing these eco-friendly stoves, supporting families and conserving forests.
These carbon offsets are permanently retired on a registry guaranteeing each credit cannot be resold.
